The de Courtenays were a French noble family with their seat in the castle of the town Courtenay in the Département Loiret. Members of the family ruled during the period of the Crusades the county Edessa (older house) and the Latin Empire of Constantinople (younger house).

A collateral line that emigrated to England  held the title of Earl of Devon from 1335 until its extinction in 1556.
